Children

Kidpower teaches skills to keep kids safe from interpersonal harm through services and resources for:

  • parents and caregivers, to equip them with skills to protect and empower young people from early childhood through the teen years
  • children together with their adults, so kids learn and practice social-emotional safety skills together with parents, teachers, coaches, or other caring adults who can continue to reinforce the skills and help kids adapt and apply them over time
  • educators, coaches, counselors, and other youth and health service professionals, to equip them with tools to integrate effective child protection, bullying prevention, and abuse prevention strategies into their standard practices in schools, camps, teams, agencies, clubs, and clinics

The Kidpower social-emotional safety skills help to protect young people from many types of harm and equip them with strategies for a lifetime of safer, more positive experiences with people everywhere they go – online and offline through:

  • child protection strategies to protect children from abuse
  • age-appropriate safety skills adults can teach to children without scaring them
  • coaching strategies to practice the skills with kids in ways that can reduce fear and build confidence

NZ Police Endorsement

Police have spent considerable time investigating and evaluating the services provided by Kidpower NZ. These investigations give confidence that at this time Kidpower NZ provides schools with suitable self-defence training and can train teachers to operate the ‘setting boundaries’ role plays.

Parent/Caregiver & Whānau Workshops

Children learn more from what they see adults do than from what we tell them to do, so we support adults in being excellent role models about making safe choices.  Adults learn how to use the Kidpower® approach for helping their children learn and develop age-appropriate People Safety skills. Participants practice ways to foster the skills through upbeat, experiential practice without using fear as a motivator.

Sessions can be after school, weekend, or evening, and can be adult only or with your children.

Community Groups, Private group or one-on-one, and Public Workshops

Utilising the Kidpower Confident Kids programme, we tailor to meet the specific needs of you and/or your group.
